I am a long-time Mt. Vernon, Iowa resident recently transplanted to Loveland, CO. I am a free lance photographer, writer and educator. Since 1980 I have created and taught over 300 photography workshops for youth, adult, collegiate and community groups, in numerous locations throughout Iowa as well as in Colorado, New Mexico, Wisconsin, Illinois, Minnesota, California, New York, Nicaragua, and Scotland.
I have published calendars, posters, postcards and note cards of my work, as well as selling images for fine art. Since 1982 I have been on the Iowa Arts Council’s roster for Artists in the Schools and Communities projects.
I use small (35mm), medium (120), and large (4x5) format film cameras as well as digital. I was a co-founder of Mount Vernon’s ARTworks Gallery and the Mount Vernon Area Arts Council. In December, 2002 he presented the talk “Through the eyes of Ansel Adams” at the Cedar Rapids Museum of Art to interpret Adams’ “Classic Images” exhibit at the museum. In September, 2008 I opened my most recent exhibit “A Thirty Year Retrospective” at the Koehler History Center in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. In May, 2009 I curated an 83 piece exhibit to commemorate the Stanley Hotel's 100th Anniversary in Estes Park.
I continue to work as an artist in residence in Thompson school system in Loveland, CO. In August 2005 and 2006 and February 2007 I worked as a volunteer in Yosemite National Park where Iphotographed extensively. I am planning volunteer trips to Yosemite as well as Mesa Verde National Parks.
Tell us how you feel about arts education
Arts education is my life. It brings passion, vision and connection to me and with those who are in my workshops. Throughout my journey in arts, I have seen a lifetime of good things happen. I feel life would be empty without arts.
